Wednesday, Dec. 6, at 3:15 p.m.: AFTERSCHOOL WORKSHOP: Gifts for Pets. It’s holiday time and you have no gifts for your pets? If it’s special cats, dogs or birds, we’ll take care of the pets on your list with homemade treats and toys at the Charlotte Library. Grades 2 and up. Registration required.
When I was growing up down in Windham County, Bill Guenther, the county forester, used to lead a Big Tree Tour every year. As a kid I hadn’t yet fallen into my current tree-crazy state, and I never attended one of Bill’s tours.
New England Cross Country results find CVU women among the top four teams – The “Belles” of Belfast, Maine, over the weekend of Nov. 10 turned out to be the women’s cross country team from Pinkerton Academy, Derry, New Hampshire. Vermont’s top team from CVU missed stepping to the podium by one place, finishing fourth among the 29 teams entered from across New England.

CVSD Board of Directors will be holding four budget meetings in December and January in the towns of the district. Each will start at 6 p.m. The Charlotte meeting will lead off on December 5 in the CCS Library.
Oh, the holidays. A time of family, traditions and togetherness. Or if you’re like me, a time of deep cleaning and junk-hiding to give my home the illusion of Pinterest perfection for the relatives. And while most homes will never look as tidy as they do before the in-laws pull up, there is one other time to pay such close attention to your home’s appearance—when you go to sell it.
Popular, ongoing programs at the Senior Center range from duplicate bridge on Mondays from 12:30 to 4 p.m., to Mah Jong on Tuesdays from 12:45 to 4 p.m., Spanish Conversation on Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to noon and Strength Maintenance on Tuesday and Friday mornings from 11 a.m. to noon.
I’m tired of writing critical commentaries, which my last two have been. And besides, the natural world of Charlotte is not something one can easily criticize. Its skies, landscapes, clouds and harvest moons bring together many of the reasons for choosing here as home. Too often we fail to be conscious of the role our environment plays in our lives.

Charlotte has officially attained HEARTSafe status. “We are one of only 600 towns in the U.S. who have enough widespread CPR instruction, public access to defibrillators and high levels of training for first responders in the latest aggressive resuscitation techniques,” CVFRS President Tom Cosinuke said.
The Friends of the Charlotte Senior Center invite you to its Annual Meeting after the luncheon on November 1 beginning at 1 p.m. This is an opportunity for everyone to become better acquainted with the workings of our organization and to consider how they can become more active as volunteers.
