It wasn’t the ideal 20th anniversary celebration of the East Charlotte Tractor Parade, but like everything else this year, it was memorable, nonetheless. The weather was glorious, the leaves were golden, and the wisp of the smell of diesel exhaust was in the air.
Over the past couple of weeks, the library has hosted Wednesday late afternoon concerts. Performers have been on the porch and audiences scattered over the green, staying in marked circles and socializing from afar.
For the friends and family who loved Dana Bolton, his passing from brain cancer this spring has left a void. For music lovers and musicians, a dearth of live music events because of the coronavirus has been one more layer of hardship on an already challenging landscape.

Transition Town Charlotte is sponsoring a hands-on workshop on scythe mowing from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22, at the Bud Shriner farm at 1503 Ferry Road.

After applying for several grants and now having been super successful in being awarded not one but two grants this year, the Grange is now busy meeting the requirements on the first one so that Slater Construction can begin the work on the beautiful, inside schoolhouse windows on the first floor. We are pleased to be able to work again with a local contractor on this project. You should be seeing activity on this project this summer.

And on that day in 1970, 50 years ago (!), participation and results far exceeded expectations: 95 percent of the 2,400 miles of the interstate and state roads and 75 percent of the 8,300 miles of town roads were cleared of garbage.
The Spring Repair Café is scheduled for Saturday, April 18 from 10 to 2 p.m. at the Charlotte Congregational Church. Start gathering your articles that need fixing! The café fixers have mended and fixed everything from cuckoo clocks to holey shirts to lamps and electronics. Most popular is getting knives and tools sharpened.
The Charlotte Grange is proud to host Pete Sutherland and Oliver Scanlon of Pete’s Posse on Sunday, March 8 at 4 p.m. Pete and Oliver will present “Fiddlers of the New Generation,” a showcase of their current students.
