Jeffrey Fox – It is from the starting line of the Champ Run in 2006. This photo, with our friends and neighbors in their kid-designed Champ Run T-shirts, has a cross-section of folks at a moment in time. From then, through the years when on a summer night we could count on running into people we knew at the creemee stand or find seemingly everybody at the beach standing waist-deep in the cooling lake, hanging out with whoever showed up.
John Searles – “Lookin’ Out My Front Door” to another wonder in Charlotte
Jonathan Silverman – Honorable Mention – An everyday reflective walk in Charlotte ignites wonder and wander, daring and delight, inviting us to follow paths buoyed by rays, nature’s guidance, and community support.
Judith Tuttle – Honorable Mention – My portrait of these chickens posing next to the front door of Abell & Lovely’s store on the corner of Church Hill and Hinesburg Roads expresses the comfort felt by both animals and people living together in this town. For our family, it was ponies, dogs, cats, rabbits and turkeys. They taught both children and adults to care deeply for other beings who lived in this community with us.
Julia Parker-Dickerson – I love Charlotte. The quiet of our dirt roads, early in the morning and on late summer nights is the most calming experience. Seeing bear, deer, bobcats, and our many birds of prey entices me to want to protect our forests and meadows. I build public gardens in Charlotte now, from Lewis Creek rd to the corner of Philo and Spear. My first installation at the Quinlan Covered bridge was and remains close to my heart. It welcomes a wide variety of animals (and people.) I hope together we can make Charlotte a pollinator friendly paradise. I can’t wait to put in the next garden!
Juliann Phelps – Honorable Mention – Future agriculturists enjoy the scenery from one of the many beautiful vistas in Charlotte. This photo was taken near the restored Thorpe barn on the Charlotte Park and Wildlife Refuge in Sept 2019. The Wildlife Refuge Committee organized a family event which included a horse-drawn carriage ride through the farm fields.
Ken Miller – Charlotte, VT, land of magical discovery (Taken at Philo Ridge)
Kevin Goldenbogen – Compassionate people, rooted in tradition, walking wide-eyed into the future; community of farms and lakes, mountains and streams, hopes and dreams; neighbors at play together in this cathedral of beauty; town, my town that I simply call home
Lane Morrison – I’ve lived in Charlotte through many seasons of life: as a parent, professional career, and “horse dad”; then as a working empty nester with kids in college; and now as a grandparent of 12, enjoying a peaceful retirement and community involvement. But throughout the decades, there have been a few constants: a special canine companion, a glass of wine and my love of living in Charlotte. After 50 years, I haven’t grown tired of this beautiful and special small town.
Laurie Thompson – Charlotte has a special raw, natural beauty that includes our farms, forests, and mountain views. And I appreciate that Charlotters care so deeply for our natural surroundings and work hard to protect it so we can all enjoy it. This sunrise view from our deck showcases that natural beauty.
Linda Gilbert – Charlotte is special! Not just to our family but also to our many friends in Honduras. We’ve been going every year to Tela Honduras for 18 years to do service work. Valeria is one of the five from Tela and is a student at Norwich University. Valeria loves seeing how beautiful Charlotte is.
